Your plumber in Charlestown
Charlestown sits high on the ridge between Newcastle and the lake. Firmer ground than the waterfront suburbs, older pipework underneath it, and some of the biggest trees in the area sitting right over the sewer.

Local knowledge
Old lines, big trees, steep blocks
Most of Charlestown was built out in the fifties, sixties and seventies, and a lot of those houses are still on their original sewer. Earthenware pipe in short lengths with mortared joints, which is fine until a root finds the joint.
The trees are the issue. The established streets around Charlestown, Kahibah and Whitebridge have mature paperbarks, figs and camphor laurels, and their roots will travel a long way for the moisture at a leaking joint. Cutting them out buys you a year or two. Relining the section fixes it properly, and it does not cost you the garden.
The blocks are steep in places, which helps the drainage and hurts the access. A trench on a sloping Charlestown block means retaining, reinstating and usually a stair or a driveway put back. That is the main reason we reline here more often than we dig.
There is also a lot of renovation and extension work going on. When an extension goes over the old line without anyone checking it first, the problem surfaces about three years later.

Plumbing work in Charlestown
Tree root removal
Cut out properly with the right head, then a camera to show exactly where they got in.
Pipe relining
The usual answer on a steep Charlestown block. The repair goes in through an existing opening.
CCTV diagnostics
Camera and sonde locating, so you know where the line runs and how deep before anyone digs.
Blocked drains
Cleared, then diagnosed. A drain that has blocked twice is telling you something specific.
Hot water systems
Gas, electric, heat pump and solar, repaired or replaced.
Renovation and extension work
The line located and checked before you build over it, not after.
Questions
The ones we get asked most
Usually not. The roots are getting in through a failed joint, not through sound pipe. Reline that section and the roots have nothing to get into, and the tree stays where it is.
Yes, and it is normally the better option here. Relining goes in through an existing opening, so there is no trench to cut across a sloping yard and nothing to reinstate afterwards.
Yes. It costs very little to camera and locate the line before you build, and a great deal to deal with it once there is a slab over the top.
